Glossary of Terms

Apostolic Team - An apostolic team is when the Lord calls out His servants as he did in Acts 13 to go and make disciples where there are no or very few disciples. They are called apostolic because they are called on a mission to function as pioneers, not building on anyone’s foundation, but going where there is no Church.

Business as Mission - Business as Mission (BAM) is the strategy of doing business in areas of the world in order to make disciples while working in the marketplace. BAM takes many forms and strategies and is difficult to define by just one methodology.

Deployment - Deployment happens when your simple church or simple church network is now ready to go wherever the Lord sends. You have made yourselves ready to send and to go; therefore you take action to get to where the Lord sends.

Engagement - Engagement begins when the servant to the nations has reached the area where they can make disciples among the people group the Lord has instructed them to target. Engagement is happening when disciples are being made among the target people group

House2Harvest Network - House2Harvest Network has been established to serve the thousands of simple (house, emerging, post-modern churches and the like) churches by helping them become a part of a major mission movement focusing primarily on reaching the unreached, the marginalized, the poor, and the development of strategic missions both locally and internationally.

House2House – The mission of House2House is to help saturate and transform communities with radical, home-based church planting movements. They encourage these types of movements through the publication of House2House magazine, newsletters, books, and their website. They also host conferences and training seminars where we strive not only to model home church, but also train others to plant home churches that multiply.

Mobilization - Mobilization is the process of teaching and planning that transformation of people’s hearts, minds, and actions to reach the nations with the gospel of the kingdom. It also includes the process of making yourself ready through training and doing what is needed to be prepared to go and make disciples.

Network - Any group of individuals and/or organizations who communicate with one another, who share information so as to enhance their individual purposes, and who come together as and when they individually wish.

Partnership - A close, collaborative relationship between two or more individuals and/or organizations with the intent of accomplishing mutually compatible goals that would be difficult for each to accomplish alone.

Prayer Network - Mobilize prayer for the nations, unreached people groups as well as specific projects, servants to the nations and ministries through a network of churches, individuals and ministries.

Sending Base – A sending base serves as “home base” for those who are sent to the nations, but it is more than that. It also assists in the needs of God’s servant to the nation to accomplish what they have been called to do.

Servant to the Nations – a missionary.

Serve the Nations – doing missions to the nations.

Simple Church - It is being the Church wherever we live in relationship with Christ, His Body and the world he has called us to reach. This is done without being dependent on facilities, professional clergy, elaborate services or structured meetings, but dependent on knowing what the Father is doing and obeying Him. Typically when simple churches gather, they gather in homes, restaurants, places of business following the pattern for the church meeting described in 1 Corinthians 14:26. The life of a simple church is not centered around a meeting, but it is a 24/7 experience and extends well beyond weekly gatherings. (from Hampton Roads Simple Church Network )

Strategic Church Network - Strategic Church Network is a network of simple churches enabling these churches to join forces in order to reach the nations (ethnic groups) and transform neighborhoods. Strategic Church Network is works with Hampton Roads Simple Church Network to assist these simple churches to accomplish their missions vision. Other regional networks may also link with Strategic Church Network to do the same.

Strategic Missions – Strategic missions is missions that focus on finishing the task; “And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matt. 24:14). It focuses on making disciples of Jesus Christ rather than establishing religion or institutions. It agreement with Jesus prophetic promise of Matthew 24:14 it focuses on reaching those people groups (nations, ethne) that are not yet reached with the gospel of the kingdom in a way that presents the gospel to them as a testimony.

Unreached People Group - An Unreached People Group (UPG) is a people group within which there is no viable indigenous church movement with sufficient strength, resources, and commitment to sustain and ensure the continuous  multiplication of churches.

Unreached People Group Partnership - A group of simple churches and networks who have each chosen to focus on a particular UPG and have then united to focus on making disciples of that UPG (nation).
